Short URL
URLs that have been made shorter by redirecting the real URL with the use of rewrite rules are called short URLs. It is the same principle just as web sites working by IP addresses but domain names are being for people (because they are much easier to remember): by being easier to remember, the so-called short URLs benefit people. They can be also helpful by search engine placement.
Comparing this shorter URL with the one below it (which is a standard Nuke), it is now surely clear which is easier to remember:
http://yourdomain.com/stats.htm
http://yourdomain.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Stats&file=index
The firs (short, “nice”) URL is achieved by redirecting the real one, which is the second URL.
